This level was originally entered into the Descent level contest as Derelict.
Interplay did not submit it for judging because they claimed it bombed.
I have never had it bomb on any of the several sytems I tested it on, but
what the hey. Please let me know if you encounter any problems.

Also, let me know what you think about the level. We think it's quite a new
twist from anything we've seen in several ways. Thus the mission briefing...

			   MISSION INSTRUCTIONS

A devastating quake has hit the QQ asteroid. Its shockwave caused
considerable damage to the mines. The core of molten nickel was close to
the surface, and is likely to have broken through the tunnel walls, making
many tunnels almost unusable. Feverish repair activity has been detected,
with extra tunneling mechs being generated to make a fast repair.
Intelligence is certain, however, that the heavily defended reactor area
has not been harmed.

As you know, your two wingmates have not returned from QQ and
are presumed dead. We don't know whether they succumbed to hostile robots or
to the dangerous conditions in the mine, so remember your quake training:

	* Be prepared to work in nearly total darkness
	* Tunnels may be impassable
	* Doors may be malfunctioning
	* Lava may cause more damage than mechs
	* Ship restoratives may be in very short supply
	* Weapons may be used to bore through solid rock
	* Hostages should be found and returned -- dead or alive

QQ is a new outpost with the latest technology, so be prepared for
some totally new tricks you weren't trained to handle.

One more thought: If you run into the debris from your lost wingmates,
observe the traditional moment of silence -- then get revenge!

(Intelligence is still working to unlock the secrets of QQ
If you encounter difficulty, check to see if this log entry is followed
by a Classified Briefing.)

Below are the hints. If you don't want any hints, don't go any further.

HINTS

Going through the Sector R-2 doors.

The two Sector R-2 doors are opened by going through the right-hand "hidden"
door in same room as the Sector R-2 doors and bumping the Sector R-2 sign
on the back wall. This opens the door with just enough time for you to fly
through. I bump the back wall to make sure I go far enough to trip the switch.

Boring through rock

The biggest hint involves our use of "burrows." We have placed burrows in
several locations as short cuts around the lava corridors and other nasty
things. We have cranked up the hit points so you really have to blast a
while to open them. (Our aim is to run you out of energy--a small price
to pay!) They're the same texture as the adjoining walls to make them harder
to find. Here's where they are:

	* A burrow goes from the initial green room to the red-door room
from the left. It is at the same relative location as the door
leading to the lava corridor on the right of the green room. If
you check the map, you'll see the green outline indicating a door
there. Blast like crazy and you'll be cutting through a few
layers of "rock." Once in the corridor, there's another blow
door next to the grate, and another blow corridor at the end
on the right leading to the red door room.

	* A burrow goes from the lower blue door tunnel to the yellow
key room. It is located just before the lava corridor you get to
by following the tunnel without turning left. Again, blast away until
you break through into the yellow key room.

	* There is a hostage trapped under the debris of a caved in wall. To
recover this hostage, you need to bore through the debris on the side
opposite of the opening. Just look for the green outline on your map.

	* There may be more...

Because avoiding the caved-in tunnels can have other consequences, you have
to determine when it is best to use the burrows, and when it's best to just
get burned.

Getting the Blue Key.

The blue key is visible through a grate. To get to it, you must do two things.
First, you must open the door with the wrench on it. This is done by going
through the repair tunnel. It's a lava tunnel in Sector R-2. It has wrench
symbols on the walls beside its entrances. If you go through in the correct
direction, the wrench door will open. You then have to open the "secret" door
in the room behind the wrench door and enter the tunnel going to the blue key.

The End Game

To win in the reactor room, you need the heavy artillery, so if you spent
what little is provided already, good luck. I figure, it helps to have a
mega missile and a couple of smart missiles. Get the cloaking orb behind the
hidden door in the opposite side of the ring from where you entered through
the red door.

That's not all...

No, those aren't all the secrets, just the hints that will help you complete
the level. There's hidden invulnerability, etc. So keep hunting if you
haven't found them.
