Verosterol

Verosterol is a two level mission written de novo by Kevin
Shaw. All cubes were created expressly for this level
series. Macro extraction is permitted as long as the source
is duly noted. This distribution should include this file
(veroster.txt) as well as a HOG file (veroster.hog) and a
mission file (veroster.msn). This level series is freely
distributable as long as all three files are included in the
distribution.

The levels were created with several versions of DEVIL: the
Descent Editor for Vertices, Items and Levels. DEVIL is
written by Achim Stremplat and the newest version is
available at:

I began to use HAMM for hog file management when my MAC
friends couldn't load my levels; I've continued to use it.
You can get it at:

Consequently, these levels run just fine on the Power PC
platform. That's the legal sell.

Mission Statement:

Kill without being killed, pretty obvious. This series
supports all modes of game play resident to Descent I. For
single player, kill the mechs, rescue the hostages and get
out alive. Multiplayer: kill the mechs or your friends. The
design is for a single player mission, but anarchy play is
good also (better on the first level unless you have ALOT of
friends).

NORBORNANE POST:

The first level in the hog. This was also my first complete
level. Thus it's a too difficult is some areas (yellow key)
and too easy elsewhere. I've left a few anomalies that
enhance the "home-grown" feel. I've not made any revisions
since I "learned what I was doing." Build time was over 20
hours simply because I was learning as I went.

ALKANE VERTEX:

The second level and much larger. This level is pushing the
cube limit for D1 w/out intricate detail, just loads of mine.
The mission is three-keyed but not "descent linear." The
mystery shouldnt be that hard to solve, but it should be
enjoyable. Build time was about twelve hours. Special
interest: the code name for this level during building was
RELIGION. As you fly through, notice the preponderance of
crosses and the cathedral architecture. Chartres Cathedral
in France/Gothic architecture was the inspiration (minus the
spires). The level name was changed due to the
"Nietzsche-esque" screen after finishing the level:
"RELIGION DESTROYED!"

If you haven't figure it out by now, I'm a professional
chemist. This is verosterol, a cholesterol derivative:

                            ______ \
                       / \|/ \ | |_/
                      | |___| \ / \
                 / \|/ \ /
                | | |
               / \ / \\/
             HO
                       verosterol
                     beta-sistosterol

Happy Descenting!
